Qing – Classic Carpet
Qing carpets take their inspiration from the refined textile traditions of China’s Qing dynasty (1644–1912), a period marked by elegance, symbolism, and careful artistic restraint. Carpets from this era were created for imperial, scholarly, and ceremonial settings and are distinguished by open compositions, balanced symmetry, and meaningful motifs drawn from Chinese philosophy and cosmology. Their calm visual language reflects ideals of harmony, order, and quiet authority.
This Qing Classic rug is a modern hand-knotted interpretation woven in northern Afghanistan by skilled artisans who respectfully preserve the design principles of historic Chinese carpets. While inspired by Qing-period aesthetics, the rug is realized through Afghan craftsmanship, giving it warmth, individuality, and an authentic handwoven character.
The rug is crafted from high-mountain wool sourced from sheep raised at elevations above 1,000 meters, where cooler climates encourage the development of fleece naturally rich in lanolin. This quality wool provides durability, resilience, and a subtle natural sheen, allowing the rug to age gracefully while maintaining its refined appearance.
Entirely hand-knotted, the design emphasizes clarity and balance, with symbolic elements thoughtfully arranged within a spacious field. The result is a timeless carpet that bridges classical Chinese design with contemporary interiors—elegant, composed, and enduring.
