Oushak – Classic Anatolian Carpet
Celebrated as one of the most influential weaving traditions of the Ottoman Empire, the Oushak (Uşak) carpet stands at the crossroads of Anatolian history and classical decorative art. Originating in western Turkey, Oushak rugs became renowned from the 15th century onward for their spacious compositions, soft mineral-toned palettes, and distinctive large-scale motifs—features that made them prized in palaces, European courts, and timeless interior design.
Our Oushak Classic rug is a modern hand-knotted interpretation woven in northern Afghanistan by master artisans who continue the aesthetic vocabulary of historic Ottoman workshops. Crafted using high-mountain wool from sheep raised above 1,000 meters, the pile displays a naturally soft hand, gentle sheen, and remarkable durability. This lanolin-rich wool, known for its long fibers and exceptional dye absorption, allows the soft apricots, muted blues, sandy golds, and warm neutrals of traditional Oushak palettes to emerge with authentic depth and clarity.
The design reflects the hallmarks of classical Oushak artistry: expansive open fields, elegantly spaced medallions, stylized palmettes, and gently curving vines rendered in a relaxed, flowing composition. The balance of scale and space—combined with the signature subdued hues—creates a sense of calm, understated luxury that has made Oushak rugs a staple of refined interiors for centuries.
Hand-knotted with time-honored symmetrical knots and a palette inspired by natural vegetable dyes, the Oushak Classicbrings an effortless sophistication to living rooms, dining spaces, bedrooms, and grand entry halls. It carries forward the gentle elegance and artistic legacy of traditional Oushak weaving—reimagined through the skilled craftsmanship of Afghan artisans and perfectly suited for modern design.
