Senneh Rug

Senneh rugs originate from Sanandaj, historically known as Senneh, in western Iran’s Kurdish region. Revered for their refinement, Senneh carpets are among the most technically accomplished village rugs of Persia, celebrated for their exceptional fineness, precise geometry, and elegant restraint.

Unlike many tribal rugs with bold, heavy forms, Senneh rugs are distinguished by very fine knotting, a low, compact pile, and crisp drawing. Their designs often feature the iconic Herati (fish) pattern, delicate botehs, or repeating diamond lattices, arranged with remarkable clarity and balance. The overall effect is light, precise, and sophisticated—qualities that set Senneh apart within the Persian weaving tradition.

Traditionally hand-knotted using the asymmetrical (Persian) knot, Senneh rugs employ high-quality wool spun to a fine count, allowing for sharp outlines and intricate detail. The compact structure gives these rugs durability while maintaining a smooth, almost silk-like handle underfoot.
